A Loss For Words
It’s not often you will find me at a loss for words, yet I’ve found myself there many times over the past few days. Mental health professionals and the universe lost a wonderful soul recently. My colleague and most excellent friend, Roy Huggins, died suddenly in November of 2021.
Roy and I first met in LinkedIn Groups about a dozen years ago, though it felt like we already knew each other. We were both techies who evolved to work in our field of passion, mental health care. We both wanted to share our technology expertise with you, the amazing helpers and care givers. And we were both full on geeks, loving sci-fi, board gaming, and other assorted geekery. We taught classes together, did this podcast, and supported each other’s businesses. Despite being on opposite sides of the country, we even carved out time to have fun together over the years.
Roy had such an amazing and positive impact on so many lives, both professionally and personally. His humor and positivity was infectious and will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to his wife, Electra, and the amazing team at Person-Centered Tech that is tasked with carrying on his wonderful work. I know that Liath and the crew there are up for this and ask that those relying on them to offer patience and grace as they cope with the loss of someone they loved very deeply.

The "Rob" in Rob and Roy
Rob is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and the CEO of Tame Your Practice. Known for his comprehensive reviews of EHR/Practice Management Systems aimed at mental health professionals, Rob is column editor of the TechTutor column for Counseling Today, creator of Describe, and directs a successful, collaborative, group practice.
Rob is also an avid lover of board games, ultimate frisbee, and spending time with his family.
Roy Huggins
The "Roy" in Rob and Roy
Roy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Director of Person Centered Tech. Known for his HIPAA compliance expertise, Roy is an adjunct ethics instructor at the Portland State University Counseling program and a member of the Zur Institute advisory board. Roy has served on the board of the Oregon Mental Health Counselors Association and was the Technology Committee Chair for the Oregon Counseling Association. Roy has been honored to be a subject matter expert on tech in mental health for state and national professional associations, state and federal government agencies, and state licensing boards.
Roy also loves board games, but not quite as much as Rob does.
